And yet, five lovely villages known as the Cinque Terre, interlaced with walking paths, terraced vineyards and groves, call these slopes home. The MOUNTAINS Collection, and this piece, is an exploration of brush + line, using the metaphorical form of MOUNTAIN to see how the marks of paintbrush and pen or pencil, with their contrasting textures, can work together to model the tactile surfaces of land.

This iconic view (taken by me in my travels) seems a perfect juxtaposition of the manmade structures forged into the cliffs and the faulted layers of rock themselves, tumbling into the sea. We are now focusing on getting as many hygiene supplies to as many refugee families around the world as we possibly can.Millions of refugees live in crowded camps where social distancing is impossible and where there is little, if any, access to clean water and soap. Access to healthcare was limited to begin with, so prevention is paramount. You can support our efforts to get them the critical hygiene supplies they need by donating. Every $10 donated provides a family of 4 with a hygiene kit that will last them for a month. $100 provides 10 families with kits!For the second year in a row, LHI has earned the GuideStar Platinum Seal of Transparency, honoring the progress and results we are making toward our mission. Common neighborhood spaces were magic to me. The texture of the materials, patina of time and the relative quiet, except the Italian voices of the inhabitants wafting out of open windows. I’ve now combined this architectural space with my sketch of the landscape, its contrasting organic lines of the mountains and geometric lines of Monterosso’s rooftops. (I kind of love it.) It extends the view toward the mountains in the experiential sketch to the broader context of the entire village, nestled at the base of the cliffs. I made the ink drawings as an undergraduate architecture student on travel study abroad with the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech in 1998. We are now focusing on getting as many hygiene supplies to as many refugee families around the world as we possibly can. Millions of refugees live in crowded camps where social distancing is impossible and where there is little, if any, access to clean water and soap. With only 2.5% of our revenue going to overhead, you can be confident that donations to LHI will benefit the refugees we support directly.”

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0837/2332/1659/products/Corniglia_Cinque_Terre_Italy_Travel_Sketches_Kirsten_Sparenborg_Brinton_TurnoftheCenturies_285_29.jpg?v=1699027904
vernazza-cinque-terre-landscape-1-srl7f-bgbj3
Vernazza, Cinque Terre - Landscape 2 (Square)

*All of my Travel Sketches may be re-painted by commission. If you see one you like that is sold or you'd prefer in different colors, contact me!*

Vernazza is one of the five “fishing villages” that comprise the Cinque Terre on Italy’s western coast, on the Ligurian Sea.
