Acropolis
*All of my Travel Sketches may be re-painted by commission. If you see one you like that is sold or you'd prefer in different colors, contact me!*
The history of the Acropolis was a little daunting - how could I capture this place in a drawing? - but I ascended. I drew sections through this World Heritage Site with particular interest in the landscape and the neighborhoods abutting the cliffs. I drew the jumble of tile rooftops just below the Erechtheion, and a few sculptures in the small gallery of artifacts on site. Now, with the brush, I was able to accentuate the rise of the plateau. This was how I experienced the Acropolis. I made the ink drawing as an undergraduate architecture student traveling independently through Europe following a semester with the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech. I used watercolor to interpret and enliven the drawing during pandemic quarantine, Spring 2020.

I'm excited to bring nearly 100 of my architectural Travel Sketches, created in mostly Italy, but also Switzerland, France, Spain, Greece, Hungary and Czech Republic from 1998 - 2012, into a Collection: lines drawn on site now illuminated by watercolor. Together, they reveal my personal evolution in architectural travel sketching and offer a piece of travel art that can remind you of your own memories in place, invite you into these spaces with your own experiential vision.
