MOUNTAIN LAKE, near Newport, Giles County, Virginia.
A rare natural lake in the Southern Appalachians, Mountain Lake rises and falls in a natural cycle, from 100 feet deep to totally dry. This lake is surrounded by some virgin forest and the beautiful patterns of the Appalachian ridges are evident in this map, revealed simply in hand-drawn topographic lines.
This is my original topographic line drawing, in black ink. There is a small mistake "x"-ed out, see photo. This was the drawing that created the Art Map Print of the same name.
