Wy' East rises like a beacon on the periphery of Greater Portland, Oregon. Like others in the Cascade Range, this volcano symbolizes the magnitude and wildness of nature.
The MOUNTAINS Collection, and this piece, is an exploration of brush + line, using the metaphorical form of MOUNTAIN to see how the marks of paintbrush and pen or pencil, with their contrasting textures, can work together to model the tactile surfaces of land.
Rising dramatically above the pine forests of northern Oregon, Mount Hood’s rugged texture is modeled in intentional fields of delicate black ink lines, with thicker line fields and shadowy blue watercolor near its base. Placid water streaks in the lightest blue-grey-green watercolor along the bottom of the painting.
