Wandering the streets of Paris with my sketchbook, this dynamic, six-corner intersection with its narrow and ornate building facades, was arresting. The street traffic was low so I stood in the center of the intersection to draw. I think the traffic was low because everyone was watching a big futbol game. I heard the loud cheers from the bar right here at the intersection. I sketched in the crowd at this bar and noted the reason for their cheers - France won over Italy!
I made the ink drawing while living in Paris for three weeks just after graduating from architecture school at Virginia Tech, invited by my professor to participate in an international design charrette. I used watercolor to enliven and re-interpret the drawing here, in December 2022.

Welcome to my Travel Sketches II Collection: lines drawn on site now illuminated by waterCOLOR, a little more wild and free than the first collection of May 2020. Together, the Sketches reveal my personal evolution in architectural travel sketching and offer a piece of travel art that can remind you of your own memories in place.
Thanks for helping to GIVE BACK: I'll also donate 5% of the sale of this piece to the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech for student assistance/scholarship for travel study abroad.
