Portland's rigid block patterns mesh with sinuous roads that wind up the hills. Cool gems of urban planning like Ladd's Addition make of the plan a quilt. This city plan is one for long looks - so much variety and intricacy! The map-drawing centers on the Willamette River, including Portland's city center and business district, the "Heights" to the west and Washington Park. The neighborhoods of East Portland, Hollywood, Ladd's Addition, Irvington, Alberta Street and Northeast Portland, among others fill the other half of the canvas. The University of Portland campus sits in the top left corner.
