SAVANNAH, Georgia's Squares are each unique. My Madison Square drawing documents the architectural street wall that wraps its perimeter. Within the square - a forest punctuated by the monument to Revolutionary War hero Sergeant William Jasper.
Elements from an 1853 map show the streets and block that comprise the ward, as well as building footprints. The "ghost" of the once-stately DeSoto Hotel is drawn on its former site, on the northeast corner. (North is down on this one!) The Armory (now home to SCAD) and the Scottish Rite building, the indomitable pair, guard the south side of the square at Bull.
