Venice is as dense as other medieval Italian cities and a beautiful tangle of streets, canals and bridges within, but out on the lagoon between Venezia and Giudecca there is a clarity of architecture and water - and boats.
I made the ink drawing as an undergraduate architecture student on travel study abroad with the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech in 1998. I used a grey-green watercolor to enliven and re-interpret the drawing here, in December 2022.
