PORT TOWNSEND, Washington and its Victorian Architecture and Wild Poppies and Blackberries - the most fascinating town (or "city") on the Puget Sound. (I am obsessed because This is My Kinda Place.)
An Art Print to complement your Map Wall, memento of your travels, reminder of home.
My architectural sketch shows the 1890 Hastings Building at the prominent corner of Taylor and Water Streets in all its glorious Victorian detail - large windows and bays with elaborate mouldings, iron columns, iron railings at the roof line, the tower and turret at the corner, the fading painted advertisements on the west wall. In 1889, the local newspaper declared Elmer H. Fisher's design was “conceded by all to be the most elegant building in the city.” In my drawing, the elegant edifice is overcome by Port Townsend's rich assortment of wild poppies and blackberries in summer, when the tourists and tour boats are roaming her streets and hearing her tales and perhaps seeing her ghosts.
The week I am listing this new piece it goes on the auction block again, in debt and in need of restoration. May the savior of historic architecture swoop down and save this gem!
