Mount Baker ['Kulshan'] rises above the city skyline of Bellingham, conveying a sense of scale and relationship. The mountain looms over the North Cascades, rising from tier to tier beyond the city on the water's edge.

The MOUNTAINS Collection, and this piece, is an exploration of brush + line, using the metaphorical form of MOUNTAIN to see how the marks of paintbrush and pen or pencil, with their contrasting textures, can work together to model the tactile surfaces of land. 

Earthy warm pinks, yellow and brown ochre and grey graphite model a range of textures of Mount Baker. Colored pencil in pale peach/pink marks trace the Bellingham skyline and punctuation of windows as seen from the shoreline of Bellingham Bay.
