GLACIER PEAK + IMAGE LAKE / Glacier Peak, Washington USA Mountain Art
Glacier Peak ['Dakobed' / 'Tda-ko-buh-ba' / 'Takobia'] rises above the Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest. This view of the most remote of Washington's five volcanoes is centered on the mirror of Image Lake, to the northeast of the peak.
The MOUNTAINS Collection, and this piece, is an exploration of brush + line, using the metaphorical form of MOUNTAIN to see how the marks of paintbrush and pen or pencil, with their contrasting textures, can work together to model the tactile surfaces of land. This sub-series pairs city skylines with their mountain. Glacier Peak is visible at points and times from Seattle but it's a rare view and the peak small (4.000' lower than Tahoma) - so it's the treeline along the edge of Image Lake that contrasts with the mountain on this one.
Blue watercolor models the craggy textures of Glacier Peak. Graphite marks trace the trees along the edge of Image Lake, and their reflections in the lake are mirrored in blue watercolor.
