The Lake District in the United Kingdom is a wonderland of geologic and literary history that beckons to hikers from all over the world. Its unique topography is compelling ground for artistic interpretation!
The MOUNTAINS Collection, and this piece, is an exploration of brush + line, using the metaphorical form of MOUNTAIN to see how the marks of paintbrush and pen or pencil, with their contrasting textures, can work together to model the tactile surfaces of land.
Honister Pass is one of the steepest in the District and its steep hillside, rendered in this piece, exhibits a beautiful striation of geologic and floral color - or colour. I used some of my own handmade pigments to bring out these rich earthy colours.
