Courcheval, French Alps

The French Alps are known for their steep snowy slopes that attract skiers almost year-round. Part of Les Trois Vallees, the Courcheval resorts were designed in the mid-century and host to numerous global and regional ski contests. This piece was commissioned by a client and the view I referenced for the painting was alluring to us because of the churned-up texture visible in all of the rock outcroppings, in beautiful juxtaposition with the soft snow.

The MOUNTAINS Collection, and this piece, is an exploration of brush + line, using the metaphorical form of MOUNTAIN to see how the marks of paintbrush and pen or pencil, with their contrasting textures, can work together.to model the tactile surfaces of land.

Paint, black ink line and graphite line commingle more than any of my other MOUNTAINS pieces in Courcheval, just as the snowy slopes and their painted shadows glide around rugged outcoppings fabricated in faceted lines and charcoal grey textures.

Choose a PRINT on thick archival textured Watercolor Paper.
