Cinque Terre 2
*All of my Travel Sketches may be re-painted by commission. If you see one you like that is sold or you'd prefer in different colors, contact me!*
Five “fishing villages” comprise the Cinque Terre on Italy’s western coast, on the Ligurian Sea. All but one are right on the sea coast and small boats line their bay and shores, along with some cats. The small villages seem made for wandering, finding coves of shade and quiet between the layers of architecture ascending the hillside. The villages are built into the cascading mountainsides which rise majestically and steeply for a dramatic backdrop. I made the ink drawings at different times and combined them digitally to create a comprehensive reflection of my drawing experience in Cinque Terre, from landscape to intimate streetscape. Some drawings were made as an architecture student in 1998. Some were made as an architect, traveling over holiday break in 2007. (I like the student drawings better!) I used watercolor to interpret and enliven the drawing during pandemic quarantine, Spring 2020.

I'm excited to bring nearly 100 of my architectural Travel Sketches, created in mostly Italy, but also Switzerland, France, Spain, Greece, Hungary and Czech Republic from 1998 - 2012, into a Collection: lines drawn on site now illuminated by watercolor. Together, they reveal my personal evolution in architectural travel sketching and offer a piece of travel art that can remind you of your own memories in place, invite you into these spaces with your own experiential vision.
