MANHATTAN New York, New York.
The most recognizable city grid in the Western world. Also the most navigable! I love finding my way around Manhattan on foot because you just can't get too lost. The original Dutch street network on the tip is quirky and interesting but after the nineteenth century, the planners of this epic city just kept gridding, block after block. Broadway breaks the grid like a rebel as it meanders from the Upper West Side all the way down to East Village.
The map-drawing includes the entire width of the Manhattan island, from the southern tip to to the southern edge of Central Park -- including SoHo, Downtown, Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Midtown, Broadway.
This is a PRINT. My hand-drawn map lines are turned white over my watercolor wash, a layering of many hand-painted rainbows.
