URBAN BURDEN: DETROIT Mixed-media Art Map Original Painting

DETROIT MICHIGAN. Motor City and glorious Gallery of Beaux Arts architecture and City Beautiful planning in the early twentieth century, vacant and derelict in the late twentieth century, showing up for a Renaissance in the twenty-first century. The city's architectural stock may be a shadow of its former glory now, but its plan still recalls designers' classicism in its downtown core as well as endless gridiron blocks fuelled by the auto industry's growth. Detroit River and Belle Isle along the bottom of the map and a bit of Windsor, Canada.

The URBAN BURDEN Collection, is a Contemplation of the layers upon layers of a city block: soil, rock, garbage, treasures, plate tectonics, wind, water, glacial scrapes, urban design, acts of  violence, acts of redemption, delight, kindness. Each block is a site of burden, accumulation of the millenia of natural forces and habitation.

Frame is a wooden hanger frame, top and bottom pieces that attach on either side of the paper via magnets, with hanging strings you can select and set length.
