Vernazza 3, Cinque Terre
*All of my Travel Sketches may be re-painted by commission. If you see one you like that is sold or you'd prefer in different colors, contact me!*
Vernazza is one of the five “fishing villages” that comprise the Cinque Terre on Italy’s western coast, on the Ligurian Sea. I drew the village as viewed from the sea in 2007, then later added three sketches made fifteen years earlier of passages and pathways within the village. Now, watercolor clarifies the pathways and stirs the sea.
I made the view drawing while traveling with my brother over holiday break in 2007; the travel was a generous gift from the architect I worked for in Savannah Georgia. I made the three “experiential” drawings as an architecture student in 1998 while traveling with the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech. I used watercolor to interpret and enliven the drawing during pandemic quarantine, Spring 2020.
